Hunt for the Enemy is the third book in the Enemy series, and is a fast-moving, exciting spy/espionage thriller featuring Carl Logan. In this novel (most likely the final in the series), Carl finds that his identity has been wiped off the earth, and his own Joint Intelligence Agency is trying to kill him. They consider him a traitor and think he is a rouge agent and has murdered several agents and others. Mackie, his boss, has been killed, and Carl is blamed. Before running from Russia, Carl stops to pick up Angela Grainger, who once shot him and left him for dead, but who was also someone he was in love with. She is also on the wanted list, and while she was his love at one time, he rescues her from her Russian captors out of personal duty. He has reason to distrust her, but since he is a believable hero, does the right thing.

Sinclair knows how to build suspense, and it starts at the beginning of the novel and continues to the dénouement. There are, as with any good thriller, and especially Sinclair’s style, difficult scenarios, and ups and downs that aren’t always believable as they would relate to real life, but they work in this novel and help move the story along. There is a love aspect, that adds a bit of relief from the suspense, and readers will find it difficult to put down. Carl is well-developed, especially for those who have read the previous novels, and he seems like a real person, albeit someone who lives a dangerous fairy-tale life and is able to kill without conscience because it is his job. He seems like a decent, likeable person, and appeals to readers.

Although there are ruthless killings, there is no real graphic violence, sex, or language, which is nice, and helps the book along. Those who have read the previous novels in the series will enjoy this one, and, while it can be read as a stand-alone novel, it is recommended that the two previous novels be read to bring the readers up to speed on the characters. This is a good one.
